Of the Armies of the French Republic
(1) Although some of them appear in this book only as division generals and although they were promote to general-in-chief rank only after the fighting started again, we thought proper to include them with the rank they have presently. Upon reading this book, the reader will be convinced their rank was received thanks to their military skills and to the courage they showed while in inferior ranks.
